Hot-Swapping Your Battery

Updated: Dec 7, 2022

It's bound to happen to every Bluetti owner. You find yourself in need to reboot your battery, replace it or move it. However, many owners do not know that you can hot-swap a battery if you have more than one battery connected to your AC300 or AC500 system.

What is hot swapping?

The term hot-swapping means that the device, your battery in this case, is still being actively used or that the system in which it is connected to is still active and powered on.

Why would I want to hot swap a battery?

Hot-swapping a device is not required, however in some cases you may not want to stop powering your loads during the required maintenance or removal of your battery. In these cases, Bluetti offers you the ability to maintain power to your loads while you perform maintenance to a battery to ensure that critical loads stay online. Why would I need to reboot a battery?

Rebooting a battery is a rare case. Having to continually reboot a battery may highlight a battery with an issue. In my own personal case, I had an external T500 battery charger that would stop charging a one of my four B300 batteries. The only way to get this battery to start charging again was to shut down the battery and then bring it back online again.

Why would I need to replace a battery?

The need to replace a battery is not a normal thing... the B300 and B300S are excellent and stable batteries. However, in my case, my battery would randomly stop taking a charge from a T500 battery charger, eventually stopped completely stopped taking a charge from any T500 battery charger, even after several reboots. After further testing of this issue, I identified that there was nothing wrong with the actual battery itself, but the DC port for the T500 failed. Thankfully, Bluetti has an amazing warranty and after documenting the issue to Bluetti support, they replaced the battery and I was able to hot-swap the battery back into my live environment.

Now that you understand what "hot-swapping" is and why you may need it in the future, let's review my video and I'll show you how to do it!
